Playful Waiting

Bus stop that transforms micro-waiting behaviours into moments of micro-play

Playful Waiting explores how bus stops could become spaces for expression rather than simply places to wait. Through field observations and insights into commuters' micro-behaviours while waiting, we created simple spatial interventions, inviting them to play with the bus stop as a medium.

Proposed interventions include decals on the glass walls of bus shelters that turn condensation into a medium for play, and light projections that invite people to create shadow puppets on the ground. The project asks how urban design might create opportunities for playful expression instead of primarily seeking to limit undesirable behaviour.
